About the artist:

Deborah set up her workshop in Olney in 1975 after studying at Camberwell School of Art and a further four years living and studying in Japan.

Deborah was surrounded by lettering growing up, and it has always been a fascination for her. Her father, Berthold Wolpe, was a typographer and Faber & Faber’s chief designer for almost forty years. Her mother, Margaret Wolpe, was a sculptor and silversmith and also cut letters and designed book jackets.

Deborah often uses the Albertus and Hyperion type faces in her work, both of which, among others, were designed by Berthold Wolpe.

As well as hand printing, Deborah works extensively in ceramics, producing finely thrown stoneware and porcelain from her Olney studio.
